iPhone 16 launching on September 9: What we know about Apple's iPhone 15 successor

iPhone 16 launch event: Apple will be hosting its 'It's Glow time' event on September 9. At the event, Apple will launch the iPhone 16 series, which will include the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The 16 series is expected to bring a host of upgrades to Apple's iPhone lineup. Besides bringing an updated camera setup and a faster processor, the iPhone 16 series will bring the power of artificial intelligence to the iPhones in the form of Apple Intelligence. For the unversed, Apple Intelligence was announced at the Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC) 2024 in June this year. In addition to this, the iPhone 16 series is likely to bring design tweaks in the form of the Action Button and Capture button to Apple's iPhone lineup.

iPhone 16 series: Design

The iPhone 16 series is expected to look and feel the same as the iPhone 15 series, which means you get the same aluminum chassis along with a glass back. However, unlike the iPhone 15 series, the iPhone 16 series will bring the Action Button to all new iPhone models. This button will be located above the volume control buttons on the left side.

Another change that Apple is planning to make to the iPhone 16 series is the availability of a new Capture button on the left side, which will make it easier to click images in the landscape mode. However, this button will be restricted to the iPhone 16 Pro models.

Coming to the colours, the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to be available in White, Black, Gold, and Gray colour variants. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus are expected to be available in Blue, Pink, Yellow, Green, Black, White, and Purple colours.

iPhone 16 series: Display

The display size of the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus are expected to remain unchanged. This means that, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus will come with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen size. The iPhone 16 Pro models, on the other hand, are expected to be taller than the iPhone 15 pro models. While the iPhone 16 Pro is likely to feature a 6.3-inch display, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is likely to sport a 6.9-inch display.

iPhone 16 series: Processor and OS

Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 pro models are expected to be powered by the company's upcoming A18 chipset. Reports suggest that the non-pro models, that is, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus will also be powered by the A18 chipset. The iPhone 16 series will run Apple's newest iOS 18 mobile operating system.

iPhone 16 series: Camera

Apple is unlikely to make major changes to the camera setup of the non-pro iPhone 16 models. This means that the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus will get a 48MP + 12MP camera setup at the back and a 12MP front-facing camera.

The company is likely to offer upgrades to the camera module of the iPhone 16 Pro models. The upgrades include a 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens and an improved telephoto lens.
