How to use Google Maps offline in India: A step-by-step guide
Google Maps' navigation feature also comes with an offline version that operates without internet connectivity on the device.
Google Maps, the most popular app for maps and navigation, provides users with various features to help them find the best routes to their desired destination and explore the top attractions in that area. However, these features are only functional when the smartphone is connected to the internet. Nevertheless, the navigation feature also comes with an offline version that operates without internet connectivity on the device. The offline version of Google Maps utilises downloaded maps that are stored on the phone to provide navigation in areas with unreliable internet connectivity. Here's a guide on how to download and utilise Google Maps offline in India:
Get the Google Maps app
Google Maps is accessible on both Android and iOS platforms. Although it is pre-installed on Android devices in India, iPhone users can visit the App Store to get it.
Save the map for offline use
– Launch the Google Maps application on your phone.
– Tap on the profile image at the top right corner.
– Select "Offline maps" from the menu.
– Press the "Select your own map" choice.
– Adjust the map to choose the desired area, such as a whole neighbourhood, city, or even a state. Users can zoom in or out to refine their area selection.
– Tap the "Download" button and wait for the chosen map to be downloaded to the device.
Using the downloaded map offline
– Open the Google Maps application.
– Tap on the profile picture in the top right corner.
– Choose "Offline maps."
– Select the downloaded map.
– Find places and get directions to them within the downloaded map.
When users download an offline map, they will need an internet connection. Additionally, functions like real-time traffic updates, public transit details, and other live features will only be accessible when your phone is connected to the internet. Google Maps consistently updates offline maps, so users will have to connect their phones to the internet regularly. It's also important to consider the amount of storage space needed for offline maps, as larger areas will take up more space on the device.
