After nearly a year of rumours and an official confirmation, Samsung’s latest foldable phone has cropped up. This is the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition – a bumped-up version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 that debuted in July. It has a bigger display, better cameras, and a more premium design, which “maximises portability and usability” with less thickness and lighter weight. Although the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition comes across as an incremental upgrade over the Galaxy Z Fold 5, it will be available only in Samsung’s home market, South Korea.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition price

The new Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition costs KRW 2,789,600, which is roughly Rs 1,70,140. The regular Fold 6, however, starts at Rs 1,64,999. Samsung will sell the new Special Edition exclusively in Korea. However, earlier reports suggested the company may be planning to launch it internationally as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition specifications

Touted as the slimmest and lightest member in the Galaxy Z Fold series, the new Special Edition is 10.6mm thick when closed and 4.9mm when open, while it weighs 236g – 3g lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. It also brings notable improvements in the design, which includes a striped pattern on the back made of metal-glass materials. The phone has one colour called Black Shadow (translated from Korean). Its camera island is rectangular compared to its capsule-shaped module on the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Specifications-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, an aspect ratio of 20:18, and a peak brightness of 2600 nits. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 uses a 7.6-inch main display, instead. The Special Edition’s cover display measures 6.5 inches, as opposed to the 6.3-inch screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Their panel specifications are, however, the same.

Another major change in the Galaxy Z Special Edition is the 200MP main sensor – the same as the one on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a 50MP sensor, instead. The rest of the cameras on the Special Edition as the same as those on the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Everything else is the same. It retains the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip from the Fold 6, while packing a 4400mAh battery with 25W wired fast-charging support and 15W wireless charging speed. The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage in a single model, which also supports Galaxy AI features out of the box.
