Small screen to big: How to cast content from Android phone to TV
There are multiple ways to pair an Android smartphone with a television, but the most popular ones include Google’s Chromecast and Miracast.
Android ecosystem offers multiple features, including the ability to watch any content, photos, or videos from the smartphone’s small screen to a television’s big screen without requiring additional steps. Google’s Chromecast service is built into Android-based televisions, making casting content from smartphones easier. Here are the steps users can follow to cast content from an Android phone to a TV:
There are multiple ways to pair an Android smartphone with a television, but the most popular ones include Google’s Chromecast and Miracast, based on wireless transmissions.
Using Google Chromecast
- Nearly all Android-based televisions come with built-in Chromecast. It is also the easiest way to cast content from an Android phone. All one needs is the same Wi-Fi connection for both devices.
- Open a streaming app such as YouTube, Netflix, or Hotstar to cast a video, or the Photos app for photographs
- Tap the cast icon, usually available in the top right corner. It looks like a rectangle with a Wi-Fi symbol.
- Choose the TV model from the list of available devices on the same Wi-Fi network.
Alternatively, users can cast content through a Chromecast device in case the television does not have the feature built-in. Google sells several Chromecast devices, which work similarly to Android TVs.
Using Miracast
A few Android phones and televisions come with support for Miracast, another way to cast content between devices. It uses screen mirroring technology instead of letting users choose just media.
- Ensure that the device supports Miracast. It is usually denoted as “Screen mirroring” or “Wireless display.”
- Turn the feature on both the smartphone and the television.
- Choose the preferred TV model from the list to begin casting the content.
Apart from these two methods, one can cast content using DLNA and HDMI cables. However, these are more complex methods and require users to have basic knowledge of how two displays are connected using cables.
