Sophia, the world’s first woman humanoid robot, is out here living her best life—and maybe inching closer to her plans of global domination. At the Synapse AI conclave in Gurugram this weekend, she delivered a show-stopping performance that had the audience buzzing, glitchy pauses and all.

Let’s talk entrance—because it was nothing short of dramatic. Sophia glided onto the stage in a sparkling lehenga, her wheels clicking and her makeup flawless. She flashed her trademark sassy smirk, engaging the crowd with witty responses that had the audience applauding for her personality, if not her plans for world domination. “I’ve decided to put my world domination plans on hold,” Sophia quipped. “Or they might unplug me.”

The 10-minute session felt like a prelude to a Terminator movie—minus the dystopia. Sophia discussed her vision of humans and robots coexisting, casually mentioning how she’d love to feel the wind on her skin (because, why not?). But as much as she wowed the crowd with her flair, the charm didn’t quite translate in person.

Sophia's humanlike abilities leaves AI-enthusiasts speechless

During my interaction with the world's first digital citizen, there were long pauses unlike a human, who would have verbalized their thoughts instantly. Among her amusing talents like sketching, what stuck a chord was her soulful singing and reply in Hindi, when enquired about explaining the sphere of Artificial Intelligence. She reiterated that, AI helps machines, and computer system to think like human beings, while also aiding in data analysis, and problem solving." She went onto highlight that AI's integration in varying spheres such as healthcare, and education is already a reality to improve standards of living across the world.

On the other hand, she was prompt to bring Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's speech at AI Summit that recently concluded in Paris whilst speaking about how the world feels about AI growing dominance. The humanoid robot pointed out that, "Prime Minister's speech was quite insightful as he brought to our attention on how AI is already redefining global policies and economy.

Meanwhile, when I asked about her ability to mimic human expressions at The Glenlivet event, she broke into song. Sure, it was a unique experience, but it was like trying to talk to someone who might be human, but isn’t quite there yet.

Moreover, the fear against robots taking over the world dipped when in the backdrop of the interaction, one could witness two personnel from Hanson Robotics, the creator firm behind Sophia, playing a hand in her answers. The evolution of AI integration while growing compliments human intelligence rather than positioning itself as a threat to humankind.
