India To Create 85,000 Technicians, Engineers, Research Experts In Two Years: PM Modi in US

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while speaking at the CEO's Roundtable in New York today hailed technology as one of the most important pillars of India's growth.

PM Modi addresses CEO's Roundtable in the US: Prime Minister Narendra Modi while speaking at the CEO's Roundtable in New York today said that India was aiming to create 85,000 technicians, engineers and research and development experts in the next one to two years. During his address, he also hailed technology as one of the most important pillars of India's growth. "Technology is one of the key pillars of India's growth story, which is why we are focused on creating more opportunities for technological investments and collaboration in India, PM Modi said at the roundtable.

Addressing the gathering of America's top tech CEOs, PM Modi stressed on the need for creating a balance between technology and democracy. He also said that technology without democracy could create an environment of crisis in the world. 

“The 21st century is technology driven. There is hardly any sector which is not driven by technology...There is a need for balance between technology and democracy as the convergence of democratic values ​​and technology gives a guarantee to human welfare...Technology minus democracy creates an environment for crisis. India is a country which has a lot of talent, democracy and market. Such a golden opportunity is rare,” he said during the roundtable.

He also said that India focused on the principles of 'reform, perform and transform' in the past decade. However, in the coming days, the country would focus on transformation by ‘increasing our speed and expanding our efforts’.

“Today India is world's fifth largest economy and world's fastest growing economy. And I am confident, and India will become the third largest economy in the third tenure of our government,” he added.

On Semiconductors and growing electronics sector

PM Modi also touched upon the subject of semiconductors during his interaction with the CEOs of tech companies. He said that the electronic sector in India is worth more than 150 billion dollars and the country aims to reach 500-billion-dollar mark by 2030.

"The policy that we brought on semiconductors and chips is being welcomed in India and people related to this sector are very excited to invest in India...We are putting a lot of stress on Design in India...India has a lot of potential to become a reliable partner in global semiconductor supply chain systems," PM Modi said at the roundtable.

"The electronic sector in India is worth more than 150 billion dollars and we aim to take it to 500 billion dollars by 2030 to create six million job opportunities in this sector," he added.

On AI

Lastly, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi also touched upon the subject of data governance and AI during his address. "India is one of the first countries to make an AI strategy...India is committed to the responsible and ethical use of AI (artificial intelligence)," PM Modi said at the roundtable in New York.

"To prevent deepfake a watermark should appear so that the public can identify a deepfake video...I am hopeful that you can contribute a lot to it," he added.
