WhatsApp has improved the video calling experience for users with a new low-light mode. That means users can make clear video calls during nighttime or when the room light is inadequate. The latest feature is now available to users but was originally rolled out with the update that also brought a new set of virtual backgrounds and video filters for video calls earlier this month.

“We’re also adding Touch up and Low Light options that can help you feel more confident and comfortable by naturally enhancing the look and brightness of your environment, making your video calls more vibrant and enjoyable,” said WhatsApp in a blog post.

What does the Low Light option do?

Meta-owned WhatsApp will improve the video quality by increasing the brightness of each frame in a video call when a user is in a dimly lit room or outdoors at night. The app adds more light to the users’ faces while reducing the grains in the video feed.

How to enable the Low Light option

The functionality is available via a discernible button during video calls, so the process of making improved video calls is pretty straightforward.

– Open WhatsApp and go to the chat or contact for a video call.

– Tap the video call icon to place the call.

– In the video call interface, tap the expand button to go full-screen.

– Tap the ‘Bulb’ button in the video call interface to enable Low Light mode.

– If the video feed appears too artificial, tap the button again to turn the mode off.

However, the button is available only during video calls, so there is no way to keep it turned on through a dedicated button. The feature is available on Android and iOS, but not on WhatsApp’s app for Windows. But increasing the brightness of the monitor’s screen on a PC can solve the problem.
