Search giant Google has released a live wallpaper app for Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL users. The app aptly-called 'Pixel Live Wallpaper' has been found listed on Google Play Store, for Android users. Unfortunately, the app is limited to Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL users. Hence, unfortunately, you can't officially emulate the Pixel experience on any other Android phone or the previous Pixel models for that matter. Here's what you need to know about the Live Pixel Wallpaper app. First things first, Google appears to be having two ways to make it work. With the help of 'Live Pixel App', Google can deliver updates directly to its live wallpaper feature without system updates. So, all the upcoming features, fixes and upgrades to live wallpaper will be delivered directly through the app, without users having to wait on updates for months.

Although its reach is currently limited to Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, Google could expand its availability to older Pixel phones and other Android phones as well. The app listing on Google Play may not even appear if the device you are trying to install the app on is not compatible. Pixel 4 users installing the app are also prompted an update. However, more details are awaited if there are any new features or changes with the latest version of the app. However, with some tweaks here and there, new live wallpapers could work with older Android phones.

Recently, it was revealed that these wallpapers work only with select handsets featuring Snapdragon processors leading to some limitations on phones with Kirin or Exynos processors. Entry-level, weaker Snapdragon-powered phones may also experience lag. According to Android Police, XDA developer Pranav Pandey disabled Ambient display support on Android 10 in order to make the live wallpaper app back then compatible with older Android phones. This way, the app was previously ported to older Pixels. The developer was able to make live wallpapers work with the Pixel 3, with some minor annoyances here and there. For example, Dark mode was not always recognised by the apps and there was inconsistency with its Dark mode theme experience. However, most of the wallpapers were able to adjust the system theme on Android 10.
