WhatsApp rival Telegram has rolled out a new update that allows users to send silent messages. The update also brings features like slow mode, admin titles, among others. Previously, Telegram added animated stickers to its app. The latest update has brought some new features. We take a look:

Silent Messages

New Telegram feature allows users to message their friends silently without sound notifications, specifically when they are sleeping. Up until now, Telegram allowed users to broadcast messages on their channels silently. The instant messaging app seems to be extending its use case in personal conversations now. Here's how it works: Hold the 'Send' button. A new option will pop up to let the user send a message without sound. Your friends will receive a notification. However, it won't make a sound. Interestingly, silent messages work even when your recipients haven't enabled 'Do Not Disturb' mode.

Other features

Slow mode: This feature will come in handy when a group is cluttered with constant messages and it is getting difficult for you to follow the conversation. In that, an admin can enable a slow mode under the Group Permissions section. Slow mode allows a Group admin to choose how long each member must wait before sending their next messages. For example, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes or an hour.

Admin titles: Another interesting feature Telegram has added to its app is called 'Admin titles.' This feature allows group owners to set custom titles for admins. Much like the default admin labels, customer titles will be visible with every message in the group. Group owners can set custom admin titles by editing the admin's rights in Group Settings.

Video previews: The new update displays video thumbnail previews as you scrub through videos. Users can also add a timestamp so others can jump to the specific part of the video you might want to show. All you have to do is add a timestamp like 0.50 to a caption of the video. Telegram will automatically highlight the time stamp as a link. Other new features include animated emoji, new attachment menu for Android users, accent colours for night mode on iOS, comments widget and more.

"The previous update brought more movement to Telegram – this one brings more peace of mind. You can now message friends freely when you know they are sleeping, studying or attending a meeting," said Telegram team. "Slow Mode can make conversations in the group more orderly, while raising the value of each individual message. Keep it on permanently, or toggle as necessary to throttle rush hour traffic."
