Microsoft on Wednesday announced its debut into foldable smartphones segment during its Surface event, launching Surface Duo phone. Microsoft also offered glimpse a glimpse into future of its hardware line-up. Along with Duo, Microsoft also announced a foldable tablet - Surface Neo. Let's take a look at what these devices are all about.

Microsoft Surface Duo

To begin with, the Surface Duo is Microsoft's answer to Samsung Galaxy Fold that launched in India earlier this week. Yes, Surface Duo is a foldable smartphone and it goes to show Microsoft is not only interested in tapping into foldable smartphoned market but also willing to work with Google on the software front. In a nutshell, powering Microsoft Duo is Google's Android operating system.

In terms of hardware, Microsoft Surface Duo is powered by Qualcomm's current powerhouse Snapdragon 855 SoC. Goes without saying, the device has two screens. Apparently, Microsoft invited select members of the press to their campus in Redmond, Washington. During that visit, Microsoft offered glimpse of two of its foldable devices - Surface Neo and Duo.

Microsoft didn't reveal the entire list of features and specifications of the Surface Duo. Apparently, Microsoft Surface Duo display is 5.6 inches each when folded and 8 inches diagonally when unfolded. While more details are awaited in terms different variants and colour options, what we know for now is that at least there is a black variant.

Microsoft Surface Duo appears to be extremely slim and lightweight for portability. In fact, it looks a lot like a pocket-sized notebook. But the glass and shiny hinges should be visible from pretty much every angle possible. There's a Surface branding on the rear, which is easily discoverable when the device is folded. Also, it bundles a variety of Android apps that you would normally find in an Android phone

It doesn't have a rear-facing camera though. If you want to take a picture, you need to open (unfold) the Duo first. Then unlock the device and use its front-facing camera by flipping it to the rear and capture photos. More details awaited as to its feature and specifications.
