HMD Global launched its affordable Android One phone, the Nokia 4.2, in India on Tuesday at a price of Rs 10,990. This is for the Nokia 4.2 variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The Nokia 4.2 will be available for buying from Nokia’s online store for 7 days, starting today. From May 14, the Nokia 4.2 will be available for buying across select offline stores, namely, Croma, Reliance, Sangeetha, Poorvika, Big C and MyG – the Nokia 4.2 will be available for buying pan-India from May 21.

The Nokia 4.2 was first announced at MWC 2019 in February alongside the Nokia 3.2, another budget phone. The Nokia 3.2 is now listed on Nokia’s India store, but HMD hasn’t officially launched the product yet.

The Nokia 4.2 has a teardrop-style notch on the front and a dedicated Google Assistant button with some clever tricks up its sleeve – a single press activates the Google Assistant, a double press gives you its visual snapshot view, while a press and hold lets you converse with it much like a smart speaker. The Nokia 4.2 also comes with what HMD is calling a breathing notification light that is mounted on top of the power button.

In terms of core hardware, the Nokia 4.2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor with up to 3GB RAM and up to 32GB storage which is also expandable. Being an Android One phone means the Nokia 4.2 runs a stock version of Android 9 Pie software.

Elsewhere, the Nokia 4.2 has a glass back and dual rear cameras (13MP+2MP) and an 8MP front camera. The Nokia 3.2 meanwhile has a plastic back and 13MP rear camera alongside a 5MP front camera. It comes with a 5.71-inch HD+ screen and a 3,000mAh battery.

At its price, the Nokia 4.2 will compete with phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and Realme 3 - both of which better specs. The Nokia 4.2 will of course be banking on its vanilla Android experience to make a selling.
