Amid speculations about Samsung’s plans to implement the Infinity-O display on Galaxy S10 and A8s, Huawei could be gearing to announce a new phone in December with a similar circular cutout for a selfie camera that goes behind the screen. Huawei released a promo teaser on a Chinese social networking website Weibo, hinting that the phone is unlikely to carry any kind of bezels or a notch above the display. The poster also suggests that there could be a hole with the size of a selfie camera module at the top left corner. The social media poster doesn’t reveal much with regards to its features and hardware specs.
This seems interesting as many other mainstream, premium smartphone brands may be working on a similar selfie camera design to introduce in the future. While a significant portion of smartphones is coming up with a waterdrop notch these days, there are a few brands that may be planning a rather odd placement altogether. Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure that the whole notch trend has become so common now that almost every smartphone brand has at least one phone in its portfolio with a notched display.
Although Samsung is late to join the notch trend, it recently introduced to the world three different notch designs that it plans to implement on its phones in the future. Samsung appears to be truly invested in the idea of notched display phones as they talked about multiple designs, namely Infinity-U, Infinity-V and Infinity-O. First up, Infinity-U looks similar to Essential Phone’s curved half oval above the screen. Infinity-V is more or less similar except that it has four edges instead of a curved half oval.
Samsung is expected to announce at least one device under its upcoming Galaxy S-series line-up with the Infinity-O display featuring in-display selfie camera. Samsung’s Infinity-O display suggested a circular cutout similar to Huawei suggested in its recent teaser poster.
