Oppo has officially unveiled its new Reno series kicking off proceedings with two high-end photography-centric phones called the Oppo Reno and Oppo Reno 10x Zoom edition. A third phone in the series, aka the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom edition with 5G, is slated to launch later. Both the vanilla Reno and Reno 10x Zoom edition have initially been launched in China – Oppo is expected to launch them for the global markets at a standalone keynote event in Zurich on April 24.

Both the Reno and Reno 10x Zoom are unique smartphones – but just to clarify, the Reno 10x Zoom is a flagship phone, while the vanilla Reno is more a mid-tier device.

That said, one look at both these phones, and you’d be hard-pressed to know the difference – both the phones share the same design language, as well as some key traits – traits that set them apart from any other smartphone in the market right now. Both the phones have a glass back and will be available in a slew of gradient colours – all too familiar for an Oppo phone. There’s Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on the front paired with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner and a pop-up selfie camera that looks exactly like the one we saw in the renders recently. The pop-up mechanism which looks a lot like a shark fin houses a 16MP camera.

Oppo Reno, Reno 10x Zoom specs and features

The Reno 10x Zoom being the more premium of the two has a larger 6.6-inch AMOLED display with a 1080p+ resolution, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage under the hood. The phone uses a larger 4,065mAh battery as well with VOOC 3.0 fast charging.

But the real star of the show here is Oppo’s 10x lossless zoom camera tech – that Oppo first announced at MWC 2019. It uses three cameras to achieve the golden 10x zoom figure – a 48MP high-resolution main camera, a 120-degree ultra-wide camera and a periscopic telephoto camera. Together, the trio can cover a focal range of 16mm to 160mm – for a maximum of 10X zoom. More precisely, the Reno 10x Zoom has a 48MP main camera (with Sony IMX586 sensor), an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 13MP telephoto camera. Both the main camera and the telephoto camera are optically stabilized.

Coming to the vanilla Reno, it comes with a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a 1080p+ resolution, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor with up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage under the hood. The phone uses a 3,765mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 tech.

On to the optics, the Reno has a dual rear camera system consisting of one 48MP sensor (Sony IMX586) and another 5MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography.
