Xiaomi is gearing for a big hardware reveal event in China on September 24 where it will take the wraps off two new 5G flagship phones, aka the Mi 9 Pro and Mi Mix 4. The Mi Mix 4 and Mi 9 Pro 5G phones will also be accompanied by Xiaomi’s new MIUI 11 software reveal.

The Mi 9 Pro is expected to be a more powerful variant of the Mi 9 with Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 855+ processor and 4,000mAh battery under the hood. The biggest USP of the Mi 9 Pro, however, will be its 30W wireless Mi Charge Turbo tech. Xiaomi's 30W Mi Charge Turbo can apparently top up a 4,000mAh battery phone in 69 minutes, wirelessly – while a 50 per cent charge is said to take some 25 minutes.

Xiaomi claims its 30W wireless Mi Charge Turbo tech uses a 5-layer nanocrystal receiver coil boasting of a conversion efficiency of up to a 98 per cent. That should help keep things under check when it comes to temperature throttling. Xiaomi is also expected to launch a 30W wireless Mi Charge Turbo tech compliant wireless charging pad, alongside the Mi 9 Pro 5G. It would be interesting to see if Xiaomi also bundles one in the box with the Mi 9 Pro 5G - or it would be available for purchase separately.

The Mi Mix 4 will meanwhile be special in its own way. The Mi Mix 4 is expected to be the world’s first smartphone to pack Samsung’s 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX image sensor. Elsewhere, the Mi Mix 4 is also expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor. To recall, its successor, the Mi Mix 3 was also launched in a 5G-ready version earlier in the year. Based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset (and using its X50 modem) Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 3 brought 5G connectivity to the masses. Something similar will be expected from the Mi Mix 4 as well.
