Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 is seemingly off to a blazing start in India – the company says it sold over 2 lakh Redmi Note 7 phones in a few minutes in its first flash sale on March 6. The Redmi Note 7 is a Flipkart and Mi.com/in exclusive in India. The phone will go on sale again on March 13, Xiaomi has confirmed.

The next sale will see Xiaomi churn out even more units, it says, so hopefully the number will be more than 2 lakh – Xiaomi phones are notorious for going out of stock quickly and its flash sales model isn’t exactly the kind of thing buyers appreciate. But Xiaomi says flash sales are not the concern – it's just that the company has trouble meeting the huge demand. Remember this is the same company that has pledged to limit hardware sales profits to a maximum of five per cent – which means it can’t afford to have unsold inventories.

The Redmi Note 7 was launched alongside the Redmi Note 7 Pro in India on February 28. The Redmi Note 7 is a toned-down version of the Redmi Note 7 Pro that focuses on design and performance at an affordable price. The Redmi Note 7 India version is slightly different from the Redmi Note 7 Pro China version – in that, it does not have a 48MP rear camera with Samsung GM1 sensor.

Xiaomi says the updates have been made in order to keep the cost of the Redmi Note 7 down in India – Xiaomi wanted to price it in line with its predecessors. The Redmi Note 7, to that effect, starts at Rs 9,999 for the base variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, going all the way to Rs 11,999 for the top end version with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

The Redmi Note 7 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor (Xiaomi says it is using the processor’s full 2.2GHz clock speed unlike rivals that have been using a ‘lite’ version of this processor), a 4,000mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 through USB Type-C, a 12MP plus 2MP depth rear dual camera system, a 13MP front camera, and a 6.3-inch 1080p+ LTPS display with Xiaomi’s dot notch and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front as well as on the back.

Unlike the Redmi Note 7 Pro, the Redmi Note 7 is available in solid Onyx Black, Ruby Red and Sapphire Blue options.
