Laptop and tablet imports in India: India has authorised 110 companies, including major players like Apple, Dell, HP, Samsung, and Lenovo, to import laptops, tablets, and personal computers under a new import management system introduced to monitor shipments, according to government sources.

Other companies, such as Acer, Xiaomi, IBM, and ASUS, have also received import authorisations under the newly implemented system, which requires companies to register the quantity and value of their imports on a designated portal. These authorisations will remain valid until September 2024.

This new system replaces a previously proposed licensing regime, which was scrapped following criticism from the industry and the United States. The sources providing this information have chosen to remain anonymous as the details of the authorisations have not been publicly disclosed yet.
