American woman shares 10 ways moving to India changed her life
An American woman has listed ten ways that living in India has changed her life. Kristen Fischer shared some huge lifestyle changes she's made, like being a vegetarian and loving chai, in an Instagram video that went viral. The video was posted in India. Based on her LinkedIn profile, Kristen Fischer works as a content creator at SkyFish Development and has lived in Delhi for the past two years. “Since moving to India, my life has undergone numerous changes. She explained the differences between life in India and the US in the description of her Instagram video, saying, "It definitely took some getting used to coming here, but now I love my life in India and wouldn't have it any other way."
Here is how Fischer’s life changed in India:
1. Adopted a Vegetarian Diet: Living in Delhi, Fischer has embraced a plant-based diet, praising it for its health benefits and ethical considerations. "We decided the Indian way of eating is better, including being vegetarian," she shared on Instagram.
2. Wears Traditional Indian Clothing: Fischer now regularly dons cotton kurtas, appreciating their comfort and suitability for the hot Indian climate. "I pretty much wear kurtas every day and love it," she said.
3. Uses Public Transportation: Fischer has discovered the efficiency of Delhi's metro system, a contrast to the car-centric culture of the U.S. "The public transport network here is among the best in the world," she noted.
4. Drinks Chai Daily: Chai has become a favorite part of Fischer’s daily routine. "It's probably my favorite part of the day and reminds me to take a break and enjoy," she explained.
5. Sends Her Kids to Private School: Fischer appreciates the quality of private education in India, finding it more affordable compared to the U.S. "Indian private schools are great and will set up my kids for success," she said.
6. Eats with Her Hands: Initially challenging, Fischer now prefers eating with her hands and finds that it enhances her enjoyment of the food. "I actually think food tastes better this way," she admitted.
7. Uses Hindi Regularly: Fischer has learned and now frequently uses Hindi, acknowledging its importance for daily life in Delhi. "It was hard work, but I'm so proud to be fluent in Hindi," she shared.
8. Handles Household Chores by Hand: Unlike the U.S., where gadgets like dishwashers are common, Fischer has adapted to doing chores manually, appreciating the traditional approach.
9. Makes Food from Scratch: Fischer has shifted from buying pre-made meals to preparing fresh, homemade food. "I've learned to make so many things from scratch that I used to buy frozen in America," she said.
10. Enjoys a More Sanitary Toilet Experience: Fischer now prefers using a bidet, finding it cleaner and more efficient. "It’s definitely something done right in India," she concluded.
On Instagram, her video has received over 1.7 million views, and many users have commended her for providing such a thorough analysis of the disparities between the two nations.
