AR Rahman Posts Separation Tweet With #ARRSairaABreakup Hashtag, Internet Not Pleased

Iconic composer and Oscar-winning music director A.R. Rahman shocked fans on Tuesday with a deeply personal and poetic tweet confirming his separation from wife Saira Banu after 29 years of marriage.

In a statement shared on X, AR Rahman wrote, "We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter."

However, what gained significant attention and went viral on Twitter is the hashtag #ARRSairaABreakup that accompanied his message. 

Many social media users felt it was inappropriate for such a personal announcement and shared their opinions on the hashtag.

One fan tweeted, “Who starts a hashtag for a breakup?” Another added, "Irony died a thousand deaths. Dude wants privacy but starts a hashtag trend for his divorce." Others addressed Rahman directly and asked him to fire his social media team. "Who creates a hashtag for this situation? Fire your admin, Thalaiva," read one tweet. 

Many others said that his behavior might be understandable, as Rahman is not as familiar with social media as some younger celebrities and may not have realized the hashtag would seem unusual.
