Bengaluru: A Bengaluru techie has landed in hot water after allegedly stealing dozens of laptops from his workplace to cover the financial losses he incurred from a failed tomato crop.
Murugesh, a system administrator, has been arrested by Whitefield Police for theft. According to reports, the accused confirmed that he had taken a loan for a farming project to cultivate tomatoes on land in Hosur. However, he faced significant financial losses after the crop failed.
In a desperate attempt to repay his debt, Murugesh stole several laptops from the office where he had been working since February of this year. The company analyzed CCTV footage and discovered that Murugesh had been stealing the laptops.
He claimed to provide laptop services and repairs but was, in reality, stealing the devices. When he quit the company in August, the missing laptops were discovered. After reviewing the CCTV footage, it was revealed that Murugesh had been behind the thefts.
Following a complaint, the accused was tracked down to his hometown in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, where the stolen items were recovered. Reportedly, Murugesh had stolen 57 laptops in total and sold 45 of them to a repair store in Hosur.
B. Dayanand, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, stated, "We have recovered 50 laptops worth 22 lakh rupees. In August, he left the company, and when the company checked its stores, it learned about the missing laptops. He had completed his BCA."
Murugesh was arrested on September 9 and has been sent to judicial custody.
