"Correction Mr Trudeau": X Users Slam Canadian PM for Calling Diljit Dosanjh "A Guy From Punjab"
X users criticize Trudeau for downplaying Diljit Dosanjh's Indian identity during a concert visit, calling him "a guy from Punjab.”
Diljit Dosanjh has become a global icon and is one of the finest Punjabi singers in the world. He is performing at all places around the globe, but one thing that no one changes is the fact that he is an Indian. When Diljit was making people dance to his beats at the Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he had an unexpected visitor. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau went up to the stage and wished Diljit good luck before his show. They both shared the stage for a moment, which was later shared on social media by Justin Trudeau. However, after sharing the picture, Trudeau had to face backlash from the X user for his caption, in which he introduced Diljit as “The guy from Punjab.”
The Canadian PM was happy about Diljit Dosanjh’s visit and concert in his country, for which he went all the way to meet him at the stadium and later posted it on X with a picture.
He wrote, “Stopped by the Rogers Centre to wish @diljitdosanjh good luck before his show. Canada is a great country — one where a guy from Punjab can make history and sell out stadiums. Diversity isn’t just our strength. It’s a super power.”

Several users in the comment section pointed out that he should address Diljit as an Indian instead of calling him “A guy from Punjab.”
One user wrote, “Correction Mr Trudeau … a guy from India*.” with an emoji of the Indian flag.
This caption and meeting came at a time when many things were happening between India and Canada. A few days ago, Canada accused the Indian government of the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on their soil, which India has refuted.
Moreover, the Indian Government has shown concern over the matter with Canada that it is an accommodation for pro-Khalistan elements on its soil operating freely without interruption and also advocating extremism and violence. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra in June repeated India’s stance on this and stated that New Delhi has expressed its “serious concern” repeatedly to Ottawa regarding this matter. Moreover, India expects Canada to take some serious steps against the Khalistan elements.
