As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, Muslims in India and around the world are eagerly awaiting the announcement of Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month. This year, the date of Eid will depend on the sighting of the crescent moon, which determines the completion of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, the month following Ramadan.

When Will Eid-ul-Fitr Be Celebrated in India?

Ramadan 2025 began on March 2 in India, following the sighting of the crescent moon on March 1. Typically, Ramadan lasts either 29 or 30 days, depending on the moon sighting. If Ramadan lasts 29 days, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 31 (Monday). However, if Ramadan extends to 30 days, Eid will be celebrated on April 1 (Tuesday).

The final date of Eid in India will be announced once the crescent moon is sighted, which is expected around March 29 or 30. The celebration date may vary slightly depending on regional moon sightings, but Eid in India is typically celebrated a day after it is observed in Saudi Arabia.

Eid-ul-Fitr and Moon Sighting in Other Countries

The crescent moon sighting will also play a key role in determining the Eid celebrations in other parts of the world. In Saudi Arabia, where Ramadan began on March 1, Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be observed on March 30 or March 31, depending on the moon sighting.

Pakistan is expected to observe Eid on March 31 if the crescent moon is sighted on March 30. Similarly, the UAE has announced that if Ramadan completes its 30th day, public holidays will extend until April 2, allowing residents to observe Eid celebrations on April 1.

Will Ramadan Have 29 or 30 Fasts in 2025?

As of now, there is no confirmation on whether Ramadan in 2025 will consist of 29 or 30 fasts. The duration of Ramadan is dependent on the moon sighting at the start and end of the month. If the moon is visible on March 30, Ramadan will conclude after 30 days, leading to Eid celebrations on April 1. If the moon is not sighted that night, Ramadan will be shorter by one day, leading to Eid celebrations on March 31.

The Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, making the exact timing of Ramadan and Eid subject to local moon sightings, which vary slightly from region to region.

Eid-ul-Fitr Traditions

Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar. On the day of Eid, Muslims gather at mosques for morning prayers and offer thanks to Allah for the strength to complete the fasting period. The Takbeer prayer, recited during the journey to the mosque, is also a key part of the celebration.

One important tradition is Zakat-ul-Fitr, a charity given to help those in need so they can also celebrate Eid. On Eid day, Muslims wear new clothes and often exchange gifts with family and friends.
