Tel Aviv: A young boy on a museum visit in Israel accidentally caused a historical mishap. The 4-year-old was exploring the Hecht Museum in Haifa when he inadvertently knocked over a 3,500-year-old jar.
The fragile artifact, dating back to the Bronze Age, was displayed without protective glass, a policy the museum said added to its charm.
The boy's father was shocked by the incident but reassured his son and spoke to a security guard. The museum, while taking the damage seriously, recognized the accidental nature of the event and invited the family back for a tour.
A conservation specialist is working to restore the jar, which is expected to be back on display soon. The family, though relieved, expressed sadness over the loss of the jar's original state.
The museum emphasised its commitment to displaying artifacts without barriers, citing the educational value.
Despite the rare incident, they plan to continue this practice. The jar, believed to have been used for carrying supplies like wine or olive oil, is a significant find due to its exceptional preservation.
