Hetch Musuem's response

In response, the Hecht Museum has extended an invitation to the boy and his mother to return once the vase is restored. The museum defended its practice of displaying artifacts without glass barriers, emphasizing its commitment to allowing visitors a closer and more personal encounter with history. According to a museum spokesperson, this approach honours the vision of founder Reuben Hecht, who aimed to make ancient art more accessible.

The museum noted that while some incidents involving damage to artifacts are treated with severe measures, including police involvement, this case was clearly an accidental mishap. The museum reassured the public that it would continue to showcase items openly to maintain the educational and emotional impact of the exhibits.

The incident highlights ongoing debates about balancing accessibility with preservation in museums, reflecting broader concerns within the cultural sector about safeguarding irreplaceable treasures while providing enriching experiences for visitors
