In a shocking revelation, American skateboarder Nyjah Huston has captured widespread attention after disclosing the deteriorating condition of the bronze medal he recently won at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Huston, a well-known figure in the world of skateboarding, took to social media to express his disappointment over the medal's quality, which he claims started to chip just days after he received it.

The 29-year-old athlete from Laguna Beach, California, posted a video on his Instagram story on Thursday, showcasing the damage to the bronze medal he earned in the men's street skateboarding event. The footage clearly displays the medal's front beginning to chip off, with parts of the back completely worn away.

“These Olympic medals look great when they're brand new," Huston commented in his post. "But after letting them sit on my skin with some sweat and then letting my friends wear them over the weekend, they're apparently not as high quality as you'd think. The front is beginning to chip off, and parts of the back are completely chipped away."

Huston, who has earned a reputation for his daring tricks and competitive spirit, likened the medal's condition to that of a war-torn object, stating, "Medal looks like it went to war and back."

The skateboarder's post quickly went viral, drawing attention from both fans and Olympic officials. In response, a spokesperson for Paris 2024 acknowledged the issue, telling the Daily Mail, "Paris 2024 is aware of a social media report from an athlete whose medal is showing damage a few days after it was awarded."

The organizing committee has since teamed up with the organization responsible for the production and quality of the medals. Additionally, they are working with Huston's National Olympic Committee to “appraise the medal to understand the circumstances and cause of the damage.”
