New Delhi: Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump for his second term via X (formerly Twitter). However, the post was immediately flagged with a community note, as Sharif's government has banned the platform in Pakistan.
"I look forward to working closely with the incoming administration to further strengthen and broaden the Pakistan-U.S. partnership," PM Sharif wrote in the post.
The community note highlighted that Sharif had banned X and was using a VPN to access it.
"Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has banned X (formerly Twitter) in Pakistan. He is using a VPN to access X, which is unlawful according to Pakistani law," the X Community Note read.

Several users mocked Sharif and pointed out the irony.
"If hypocrisy had a human face, it would be Shehbaz Sharif," one user wrote.

"Mr. Trump, this joker is using a VPN to congratulate you... By the way, Elon Musk's platform has been banned in Pakistan!" another user commented.
Earlier this year, in April, Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced a nationwide ban on the social media platform X, citing national security concerns.
