New Delhi: Signboards of Akbar and Humayun Road in Lutyens’s Delhi were vandalized on Friday night by a group of miscreants. A video has surfaced online showing the enraged group of men defacing the signboards with black paint. In the footage, the men are seen spraying black paint on the signboards and kicking them. Further, they were seen putting up posters of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the boards.

They chanted “Jai Shivaji, Jai Bhavan” and hurled abuses at Mughal rulers Babur, Humayun, and Akbar.

The incident occurred after the group watched the latest release of Vicky Kaushal’s Chhava, a movie that revolves around the life of Maratha warrior King Chhatrapati Sambhaji.

According to the latest update, the authorities swiftly took action after receiving the information, and the NDMC cleaned the defaced signboards on Saturday morning. The matter is also being investigated by the police.

Authorities have begun an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the miscreants.

The Delhi police is also monitoring the situation to prevent further vandalism.

However, this is not the first time controversy has erupted over the names of these roads, and several groups have requested that the names be changed. In October 2021, the same signboard was vandalized, and posters of ‘Samrat Hemu Vikramaditya’ were put up on it.
