Viral News: A woman employee from Singapore was slapped with over S$5,000 (approximately Rs 3.26 lakh) as a fine for faking medical documents to gain nine sick leaves.

Singapore Woman Fake Sick Leave

Su Qin, a Chinese national residing in Singapore, forged a medical certificate to extend her stay in China to care for her ailing mother. Facing financial and emotional strain, she prepared fake medical papers using Photoshop software, altering the hospital name, dates, and QR code. This allowed her to take nine days of leave, during which she received S$3,541.15 in salary.

Caught By Employer

However, her deception came under scrutiny during her resignation process when her employer discovered the forged medical leaves. Su was immediately dismissed from the job, and a police report was filed by the employer.

Court Case on Techie

In court, Su admitted to forgery and explained that her actions were driven by desperation rather than malice. Her lawyer argued for leniency, citing the emotional distress she was under due to her mother's critical condition and financial burdens.

While the prosecution sought a fine between S$5,000 and S$6,000, the court ultimately imposed a S$5,000 fine. Su has been terminated from her job and is currently unemployed.

Recently, an e-commerce giant was ordered by an international court to pay a Rs 290 crore fine for tracking employee activity and performance, which had created a stir among netizens on social media.
