A startup in Japan has grabbed headlines for providing a unique service to young professionals looking to leave their unsatisfactory jobs.

According to a leading media outlet, a company called Exit is helping people resign from their positions and even offers a discount for returning clients.

What does the company do?

Since 2017, Exit has been overseeing the resignations of around 10,000 people per year. The firm charges 20,000 yen (approximately ₹11,600) to handle the resignation process. This includes calling the client's company to inform them about the resignation, providing details about the last working day, and facilitating the return of company gadgets and uniforms.

Following Exit's success, other companies have started offering similar services in Japan. For instance, a company named Albatross also calls clients' workplaces to announce their resignation and provide relevant details, such as the last working day.

Another firm, named Momuri—translating to "I can't do this anymore"—has gained popularity as well.

These services are increasingly sought after in Japan, where employees often face significant resistance and pressure when trying to quit their jobs. Many employees report instances of resignation letters being torn apart or being harassed to force them to stay.

The co-founder of Exit told a leading media outlet, "Japanese are not educated to debate and express opinions."

Ayumi Sekine, an employee of Albatross, shared that he had a difficult time quitting his previous job at a gas company, where his former boss refused to let him go until he begged and cried.

As Albatross CEO Shinji Tanimoto mentioned, while most bosses are fine with a third party informing them about an employee's resignation, some demand legal negotiations with a lawyer present.
