In a bold display of defiance against moral policing, a group of women in Pune, Maharashtra, has sparked widespread support with their powerful response to a controversial poster. The incident unfolded near a popular walking track where an initial poster had urged women to "dress modestly to avoid attracting attention," igniting a storm on social media.
The provocative poster caught the attention of the Mast Group, who swiftly mounted their own response. Their retort, placed just below the original, bore a clear and uncompromising message: "Women, wear clothes in such a way that no one dares to look at you with evil eyes." This counter move from the Mast Group, written in Marathi, not only challenged the notion of policing women's attire but also called for a shift in societal attitudes towards women's freedom and safety.
Not long after, the 'Trasth Group' joined the conversation with an equally impactful poster directed towards men. Positioned adjacent to the initial exchange, their poster urged men to uphold purity of mind and thoughts: "Men, keep your mind so clean that no matter what clothes someone wears, your eyes should not fall." This powerful response emphasized personal responsibility and aimed to redefine the discourse surrounding modesty and respect.
The whole incident was shared on the social media platform X where in the image both of the posters were clipped.
The post was shared with a caption that reads, “This is at a walking track in Deccan, Pune. Immediately after the poster asking women to dress appropriately was put by ‘Mast group’, women responded.”
The post has garnered more than 55,000 views with 700 likes.
The confrontation between these groups has resonated deeply across social media platforms, garnering widespread praise for the courage and eloquence displayed by both the Mast and Trasth Groups. Their actions have sparked a broader dialogue on gender equality, individual autonomy, and the harmful effects of moral policing in society. And people on social media shared their voice for this.
