Anaemia is a condition in which the red blood cells or the haemoglobin concentration within them is lower than normal.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), anaemia affects young children, pregnant women, and postpartum women more than any other group globally.

Normal hemoglobin levels

  • Men: 13.2 to 16.6 g/dL
  • Women: 11.6 to 15 g/dL
  • Children: 11.0 to 16.0 g/dL

Signs and symptoms of Anaemia

  • Tiredness
  • Dizziness or feeling light-headed
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Headache
  • Shortness of breath, especially upon exertion

Sever symptoms

  • Pale mucous membranes (in the mouth, nose, etc.)
  • Pale skin and under the fingernails
  • Rapid breathing and heart rate
  • Dizziness when standing up
  • Bruising more easily
