10.71M Chinese students begin national college entrance exam

A total of 10.71 million Chinese students Tuesday began the annual national college entrance examination, known as Gaokao.

This year, the number of students is 400,000 more than last year's figure, China's official Central Television reported.

More than 7,000 exam sites with 400,000 exam rooms have been set up across the country.

Nearly 950,000 exam-related workers will provide service for the students.

132 exam sites were set up in Beijing, with 22 of them serving as backups and the number of students in each exam room has been set at 20, 10 less than the usual density because of the epidemic, CCTV said.

Gaokao usually takes place in June every year, but it was postponed by one month this year due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
