Washington DC: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order to overhaul US election process. Citing the electoral process of countries, including India, Trump has called for fair elections with a major focus on ensuring votes are counted accurately and protected from illegal interference or influence.
"India and Brazil, for example, are tying voter identification to a biometric database, while the United States largely relies on self-attestation for citizenship," the order reads.
“Free, fair, and honest elections unmarred by fraud, errors, or suspicion are fundamental to maintaining our constitutional Republic. The right of American citizens to have their votes properly counted and tabulated, without illegal dilution, is vital to determining the rightful winner of an election,” the US President stated in the executive order.
This isn't the first time India has been praised for its election process.
Back in November 2024, DOGE Chief and Tesla CEO Elon Musk hailed India for the successful Lok Sabha elections. He pointed out that India managed to count 640 million votes in a single day.
Muszk made these remakes back when California's results were delayed in the US Presidential Elections 2025, even 19 days after polling.
Responding to a post about vote counting in India, Musk wrote, "India counted 640 million votes in 1 day. California is still counting votes," along with a facepalm emoji to express his resentment.
Trump's recent order has sparked debate, with critics arguing that it could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters.
Trump warned that states which will fail to implement these measures could face severe financial consequences. The federal government will withhold funds from states that do not enforce proof-of-citizenship requirements or continue accepting ballots after Election Day.
