A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar at 1:20 PM (local time) on March 28, 2025, causing strong tremors that were felt as far as Bangkok, Thailand. The quake, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, had its epicenter at 96.07°E, 21.93°N in Myanmar.
Videos of a tall building shaking and water spilling from a rooftop pool in Bangkok have surfaced on the social media platform X.
Nearby provinces also experienced swaying due to the resonance of low-frequency seismic waves, but no major damage has been reported in Thailand. Meanwhile, in Myanmar, there are no immediate reports of casualties or significant destruction, though authorities are still assessing the situation.
A Buddhist monastery collapsed near Taunggyi city, Shan State, which is bordered by Thailand.
Several other videos captured during the earthquake have gone viral on the internet.
The earthquake was recorded at 11:50 AM IST, and while the tremors were strong, no tsunami threat has been issued. However, residents in affected areas have been advised to remain cautious and stay updated with official announcements.
