Myanmar: A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck near Kyaukse in Myanmar on Saturday evening, a month after strong tremors rattled the nation. According to the European Seismological Centre(ESMC), the earthquake was located at a depth of 55 kilometres.
According to reports, the Department of Safety and Security (DSS) is actively handling the situation. The DSS has issued safety advisories and is coordinating the movement effectively. The officials have stated that no significant damage or casualties have been reported yet.
As per the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), earlier on Thursday, an earthquake of magnitude 3.3 on the Richter scale shook the nation. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km, making it vulnerable to aftershocks.
In a post on X, the NCS shared the information, saying, “EQ of M:3.3, On 15/05/2025 13:31:01, Lat: 26.67, Long: 96.17 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Myanmar.”
In the morning hours of the same day, another earthquake of magnitude 3.4 struck the region.
Myanmar is reeling in the devastation caused by a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake, which hit the country on March 28. The aftermath of the deadly quake can be understood by the fact that at least 3,649 people were killed and over 5,000 were injured.
The March earthquake intensified an already severe crisis in Myanmar, where over 3 million people have been displaced by ongoing civil conflict. The disaster caused massive impact on the farming and the health services.
