A deadly fire that broke out in a nightclub in the Spanish city of Murcia early Sunday morning has claimed at least six lives and injured dozens of others, the local emergency services were reported as saying. The blazes, which erupted in the Teatre nightclub at around 6 a.m. local time (0400GMT), spread quickly posing threats to the lives of the people inside, prompting panic and fleeing. The cause of the fire remains unknown. It took an estimated three hours for the firefighters to extinguish the blazes.
Six corpses recovered
Six corpses were recovered as the first responders and the firefighters entered the building. More victims could be found, they told the Spanish agencies. There were several people in a tightly packed popular Teatre nightclub when the fire started, many are still missing, according to reports. Four people, two women in their 20s and two men in their 40s were being treated for smoke inhalation. The property was located in the southeastern Spanish city. The local authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and looking into any discrepancies that led to the safety hazard.
“We are destroyed,” mayor of Murcia Jose Ballesta told Spanish broadcaster TVE.

Last week, at least 100 people were killed and more than 150 injured after a deadly fire broke out at a Christian wedding hall in a northern Iraqi town. 150 others were injured badly. Authorities said that the fire was reported in Iraq's Nineveh province in its Hamdaniya area which is a predominantly Christian area just outside of the city of Mosul. The hall was located some 335 kilometres northwest of the capital, Baghdad.
Iraq's prime minister this week visited the families of the victims and the injured patients in northern Iraq and expressed condolences. The survivors admitted to the local hospitals were receiving oxygen and were bandaged. Family members waited in the hallways and outside as workers organized more oxygen cylinders.

In Nineveh province, the health department said that the death toll reached 114. Health Ministry spokesman Saif al-Badr had put the number of injured at 150 via the state-run Iraqi News Agency.
