New Delhi: In an unexpected twist, Elon Musk's own AI assistant, Grok, developed by his artificial intelligence firm, has stirred the pot with a bold claim about the spread of fake news on the social media platform X.

When asked to identify who spreads the most fake news on the platform, Grok’s response pointed directly to Musk himself, citing his massive influence and controversial posts.

“Determining who spreads fake news the most on X is tricky,” Grok wrote adding that “Based on available data and my capabilities, here’s what I’ve found: Elon Musk often comes up as a major player.”

The AI shed light on Musk's vast following of over 200 million on X, pointing out that his posts on politically sensitive topics like elections, COVID, and political discourse frequently spark controversy.

Grok referenced reports from well-known outlets like Forbes and NBC, which note that Musk's unverified claims such as those about election fraud have gained billions of views and contributed to spreading misinformation.

While Grok acknowledged that others, such as conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, far-right figures Laura Loomer, and Marjorie Taylor Greene, also spread divisive content, it emphasized Musk’s unparalleled reach and influence.

“Musk’s scale and tendency to double down rather than retract put him ahead in terms of raw influence,” it said.

The AI assistant's analysis also revealed that 14% of X users knowingly share misinformation, according to some studies from 2023, with big accounts like Musk’s being particularly impactful.

Grok suggested that, although it cannot fully track every post in real time, Musk’s influence likely places him at the top of the list for spreading misinformation on the platform.
