Hundreds of protests are set to take place at Tesla showrooms across the U.S. and around the world on Saturday, marking the latest wave of demonstrations against Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Organizers have named the event Tesla Takedown’s Global Day of Action, calling it the largest coordinated protest yet.

According to organizers, rallies will be held in front of over 200 Tesla locations worldwide, with nearly 50 in California alone. The demonstrations began shortly after Donald Trump’s inauguration and have grown into a decentralized movement opposing Musk’s influence over U.S. federal policies.

Why Are Protesters Targeting Tesla?

Protesters say Musk has used his wealth and power to push policies that hurt workers and undermine government institutions. They point to mass layoffs, budget cuts, and the elimination of entire agencies as reasons for their opposition.

“Nobody voted for this, and nobody voted for Elon,” said Vickie Mueller Olvera, a Bay Area organizer involved in the movement, as per a report from The Guardian. “He’s an unelected super-billionaire and he’s a thug.”

The grassroots movement, Tesla Takedown, says it will continue demonstrating as long as Musk’s actions “shred public services.” Organizers say they are not led by a single national group, but rather by local activists planning independent protests in their areas.

Growing Opposition on Social Media

Since mid-February, social media has been flooded with images of small but growing protests outside Tesla showrooms. Demonstrators have carried signs depicting Musk as a dictator, with slogans like “Diabolical Oligarchs Gaslighting Everyone” and “No Swastikars,” a term some activists have coined for Teslas.

With this weekend’s large-scale protests, organizers hope to send a clear message to Musk and the U.S. government: his growing influence will not go unchallenged.

Many Republicans are of the view that Musk is being targeted unfairly. They point out to the fact that other billionaires such as Bill Gates and George Soros, held enormous influence over the previous administration.
