On the death of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, US President Joe Biden stated, “Hassan Nasrallah and the terrorist group he led, Hezbollah, were responsible for killing hundreds of Americans over a four-decade reign of terror. His death from an Israeli airstrike is a measure of justice for his many victims, including thousands of Americans, Israelis, and Lebanese civilians. The strike that killed Nasrallah took place in the broader context of the conflict that began with Hamas’s massacre on October 7, 2023.  Nasrallah, the next day, made the fateful decision to join hands with Hamas and open what he called a “northern front” against Israel."

“The United States fully supports Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and any other Iranian-supported terrorist groups.  Just yesterday, I directed my Secretary of Defense to further enhance the defence posture of U.S. military forces in the Middle East region to deter aggression and reduce the risk of a broader regional war,” Biden said. 

As the war escalated between Israel and Lebanon, the people sought shelter in Tel Aviv after air alert sirens sounded across the city.
 

The IDF spokesperson in Arabic, Avichay Adraee, posted a reminder for Lebanon's residents, especially those in the Bekaa region, the southern suburbs of Beirut (Dahiyeh), and Southern Lebanon. He calls to stay away from Hezbollah property, including ammunition depots or any other facility belonging to it and not return until further notice.

An airstrike was reported in the southern Laylaki area of the Lebanese capital Beirut, near the city's international airport. A video has also surfaced, which shows a column of smoke rising into the sky, with a plane in the background approaching the airport for landing, almost simultaneously with the attack.

After the missile launch from Yemen, the IDF stated, “Following the alerts that were activated in the centre of the country, a surface-to-surface missile launched from Yemen was detected and intercepted by the air defence fighters outside the country's borders. The IDF is now targeting Dahiya in Beirut.”

The IDF continues to attack Hezbollah targets in Lebanese territory. Among the targets that were attacked included launchers of the terrorist organization Hezbollah aimed at the rear of the State of Israel, buildings where weapons and terrorist infrastructure of the organization were stored. The IDF continues to attack, damage and undermine Hezbollah's military capabilities and infrastructure in Lebanon.

Foreign ministers of Iran and Egypt met in New York to discuss the situation in Lebanon and around the region following the Israeli strike in Beirut.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti tweeted, "Cancelling my campaign tomorrow in solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon & Gaza, especially Hassan Nasarullah. We stand with the people of Palestine & Lebanon in this hour of immense grief & exemplary resistance."

According to reports, alerts were activated in the centre of the country following the launch of a missile from Yemen into the territory of the State of Israel. 

After the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has relocated to the Gaza Strip after learning about the Israeli airstrike that killed Hezbollah Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah. According to a report by a Saudi state-owned television channel, Sinwar's security circles have changed in the past few days and the Hamas leaders also reportedly decided to stop communicating with high officials abroad "until further notice."

Mohammad-Javad Larijani, a former top advisor to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, described the attack that killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah as a result of a "serious informational and security breach" within the Tehran-supported regional militia, referred to as resistance. He said, "The Zionist regime managed to exploit vulnerabilities, causing significant damage," whether through "pagers or other gaps," stressing that "even the recent bombing was the result of infiltration."

The Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, at the end of the assessment of the situation in the Northern Command, said, “Nasrallah wanted to destroy Israel - We killed him.” 

According to the Lebanese news media reports, Nasrallah's deputy, Naim Kassem, has been temporarily appointed to replace him until the organisation's Shura Council meets to decide who will be the new leader who will replace Nasrallah permanently.

Israel's Defence Minister Yoav Gallant praised the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah saying that he was responsible for the murder of thousands. He hailed IDF's operation to kill Nasrallah saying that the arch-terrorist was responsible for the murder of thousands of Israeli civilians and soldiers as well as foreign citizens. “To our enemies, I say: we are strong and determined. To our partners, I would say: our war is your war and to the people of Lebanon, I say: our war is not with you. It's time for change,” the Israeli defence minister said. 

After Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah's killing, the Iranian media claimed that Iran Revolutionary Guards deputy commander Abbas Nilforoushan was killed in Israeli attacks in Beirut. 

The Israel Defence Force (IDF), in a statement released on Saturday, reiterated that what Hamas did on October 7 was condemnable and Hassan Nasrallah was the leader of an evil terrorist organisation. “Nasrallah used the people of Beirut as human shields. Our war is not with the Lebanese people,” IDF said. 
 

The Israeli military has ordered new restrictions on mass gatherings in parts of central Israel, including the greater Tel Aviv area, in the wake of Nasrallah’s killing, in anticipation of a potential response by Hezbollah. As per the order, gatherings of over 1,000 people will be banned.

After the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in the Israeli airstrikes, the Israeli Defence Force said that weapons belonging to Hezbollah's anti-ship missile unit embedded beneath civilian buildings in Beirut were struck by the IDF. These weapons posed a threat to international maritime routes, freedom of navigation and Israel's strategic assets in the region.

For years, the Hezbollah terrorist organisation built and developed precision-guided anti-ship missile systems, originating from Iran, that were aimed at threatening international maritime freedom and the strategic assets of Israel and the region. These missiles have ranges of hundreds of kilometres. The missiles targeted were stored in underground storage facilities, concealed beneath residential buildings under a civilian guise, and they were intended to be mobilized and fired within minutes. This is yet another example of Hezbollah's operational tactics, using Lebanese civilians as human shields for its terrorist activities. The IDF continues to operate forcefully to degrade Hezbollah's capabilities, which threaten the citizens of Israel and the entire region,” the IDF stated. 

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the path of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah will continue and his cause for the liberation of Al-Quds will be realized.

After the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Hamas issued a statement saying that the killing of Hezbollah leader would “only strengthen the resistance”, referring to Tehran-backed militias in the region.

Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, issued a strong statement regarding recent developments in Lebanon, condemning what he described as the "massacre of unarmed people" and criticizing the actions of the Israeli government.

Khamenei characterized the violence as a reflection of the "savage nature of the Zionist regime," emphasizing that it underscores the "shortsightedness and foolish policies" of its leaders. He pointed to the recent history of conflict in Gaza, asserting that the ruling authorities have failed to learn from their "criminal" actions.

"The terrorist gang ruling the Zionist regime did not learn from their past mistakes," Khamenei said, insisting that mass killings of civilians would not dismantle the resilience of organizations like Hezbollah. He further claimed that the ongoing aggression in Lebanon is part of the same misguided strategy.

Israel has issued a warning to air traffic control at Beirut Airport, stating it would use "force" if an Iranian plane attempted to land, according to a source within the Israeli ministry speaking to Reuters.

Israel’s opposition leader Yair Lapid praised the military for its recent operation, which the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claims resulted in the death of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. 

Lapid lauded the defense establishment, emphasizing the significance of the strike for Israel’s national security. “I congratulate the defense establishment, the IDF, and the IAF for the elimination of the mass murderer Hassan Nasrallah. All our enemies should know that those who attack Israel are marked for death,” he stated on X.

In a post on X, the Embassy wrote, “British nationals in Lebanon should leave now. You should take the next available flight.” The Embassy further said that efforts were underway to accommodate more British nationals on its dedicated flights. "We're working to increase capacity and secure seats for British nationals to leave," the post further read.

Amid massive airstrikes in Beirut, Lebanon by Israel, Lloyd Austin, US Defence Secretary has said that US did not have any advanced warnings of these attacks on Lebanon.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), in their press briefing had warned residents of Beirut to move away ahead of strikes; another evacuation order has been issued by Israel now for residents of Al-Barajneh and Al-Hadath neighbourhoods. They have been asked to move to a distance of over 500 metres as strikes continue.

The pace of airstrikes in Beirut by Israel, which was initially intermittent, is now continuous.

Israel suddenly launched attack on Beirut in Lebanon, at around 3:00 am, targeting civilian areas where Hezbollah had allegedly buried their strategical assets. The locals have had a sleepless night in the Lebanese capital.

In a stern warning to Tehran amid airstrikes on Lebanon, Israel PM Netanyahu said, “If you strike us, we will strike you.”

The death toll is likely to rise significantly as teams are still combing through the rubble of six buildings. Israel launched a series of strikes on other areas of the southern suburbs following the initial blast.
