A Russian pet owner claims that her 3-year-old Russian cat named Kefir is the “largest cat in the world”. Yuliya Minina from Stary Oskol posted a picture of her Maine Coon on Instagram and boasted about the feline’s height. In the post, she claimed the cat is as tall as her four-year-old daughter.
In one of the videos shared by Minina, the white furry beast can be seen standing on his two hind paws next to her daughter. In another video, the Russian cat was seen struggling to open the door to make his way into the family’s yard.
According to The New York Post, the cat was named after the cultured milk beverage that resembles his milky-white fur. Back in 2022, he made headlines from just being 2 years old and already weighing 28 pounds. The magnum opus weight is way more than the average weight of a Maine Coon. As per the American news outlet, male Maine Coons typically weigh an average of 18 pounds whereas female Coons are 12 pounds on average. The giant cats typically reach around three feet in length. The cat still has the potential to grow in size. “Maine Coons grow up to 3-4 years. Therefore, I think it should become even larger,” Miniana said last year.
A gentle soul
Describing the demeanour of her beloved pet, Minina said Kefir is sometimes mistaken for a dog because of his playful and gentle demeanour. “He not only grew up big in appearance, he is also very smart and always behaves calmly,” she said. “The look is generally like that of a person, and Kefir has a formidable appearance, but he is a very affectionate and modest child,” she added. She insisted that sometimes the cat’s “cuddly nature” can make things hard due to his sheer size. “At night he likes to climb on me and sleep. When he was a kitten, it didn’t cause me any inconvenience,” she explained. ”But now he has become big and heavy, and, of course, it is difficult to sleep like that,” Minina quipped.

Meanwhile, Kefir has managed to gain significant attention from the netizens. “The cat seems to be waiting for you to bring his beer. Awesome picture :),” an Instagram user quipped. Hi!!! May I know where you got your cat from? Your cat is so so gorgeous!!! I’m looking for one just like yours,” another user commented.
