Egypt's and Spain's Foreign Ministers met on Saturday in Cairo, where they signed an agreement of cooperation to aid Libya and Lebanon in their economic and political situation.

Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry welcomed his Spanish counterpart, Arancha Gonzalez Lay, who is on a tour through the Middle East that also included a visit to Lebanon on Friday.

Libya was plunged into chaos when a NATO-backed popular uprising in 2011 toppled longtime dictator Moammar Gadhafi, who was later killed.

The country has since split between rival administrations based in the capital Tripoli and the eastern city of Benghazi, each backed by armed groups and rival foreign governments.
