Moscow: Nearly 24 hours after a Mi-8 helicopter with 22 people on board went missing in Russia's Kamchatka, a remote peninsula, rescuers have found the wreckage. All 22 individuals aboard are presumed deceased. Search teams have reported no survivors from the wreckage , according to state news agency TASS. The Mi-8T helicopter had departed from a base near the Vachkazhets volcano.

The Kamchatka peninsula, located approximately 7,100 km (4,400 miles) east of Moscow, experienced a cyclone over the weekend with severe winds and rain, though it remains unclear if these conditions contributed to the crash.

According to AP, Russia's emergencies ministry has reported that 17 bodies have been recovered from the crash site, with search operations continuing for the remaining occupants.

Sergei Lebedev, the Kamchatka region’s minister for emergency situations, indicated that initial information suggests the helicopter crashed on Saturday.

Emergency services in the Kamchatka region have noted that poor visibility and severe weather conditions are likely factors in the crash.

The Mi-8 helicopter, which took off near the Vachkazhets volcano on Saturday, failed to reach its intended destination.
