London: The London’s Metropolitan Police has registered a case against Pakistan Army Chief Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah for carrying out an alleged attack on protestors in Islamabad under his supervision, including the usage of live rounds.

Michael Polak, Barrister at Church Court Chambers, said that he made a formal complaint in this regard after receiving requests from the Pakistani diaspora to proceed with the matter.

Polak said that he has written to the Attorney General for England and Wales to request consent to prosecute General Munir.

What Are Allegations Against Pak Army Chief?

As per the complaint, the Pak Army chief has been accused of "torture and crimes against humanity” while handling the protest situation in Islamabad.

“There is a lot of evidence in relation to the alleged crimes that took place during the Islamabad Massacre, where live rounds were used against protestors. This evidence establishes a prima facie case for General Munir’s criminal responsibility for torture and crimes against humanity, which are offences under English law,” Polak stated.

Polak further said the “evidence should be considered objectively by the courts” and all of General Munir’s fair trial rights will be protected.

On November 26, Pakistan security forces launched a nighttime operation to disperse thousands of supporters of the country's jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, after the crowd broke through barricades and gathered in the capital Islamabad demanding his release.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) in its fact-finding report blamed the PTI-led protest in Islamabad on November 26, 2024. It claimed that the lives of demonstrators and security personnel were lost, despite the federal government's assertions to the contrary.
