In another Khalistani provocation, the protesters on Monday carried out a car rally with pro-Khalistan slogans and posters outside a Hindu temple in Canada’s Surrey. Notably, the rally took place during Navratri when Hindu community living in Canada visited the temple to offer prayers.

According to sources, the extremists blocked the entrance of the temple. The visuals of the rally showed huge posters and Khalistani flags placed on top of the cars. The protesters were heard raising slogans in support of Khalistan outside the temple. Notably, the car rally took place days after a diplomatic row erupted between India and Canada over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a Sikh temple in Canada on June 18.

Justin Trudeau wishes 'Happy Navratri'

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wished "Happy Navratri" to the Hindu community in his country amid a diplomatic row with India. "Happy Navratri! I'm sending my warmest wishes to members of the Hindu community and all those who are celebrating this festival," he posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Diplomatic row between India and Canada

The tensions between the two countries escalated after Trudeau publicly alleged the link of Indian agents in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in a Vancouver suburb in June this year.

However, India rejected Trudeau’s claims and termed them 'absurd' and 'motivated'. "We reject the statement of the Canadian Prime Minister in their Parliament, as also the statement by their Foreign Minister. Allegations of the Government of India's involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated…” the Ministry of External Affairs said.
