Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday backed the idea of halting attacks on Ukrainian's energy facilities for the next 30 days, after high stakes talks with US counterpart Donald Trump on ending the 3-year-old Ukraine war. Kremlin, after the much anticipated phone conversation between Putin and Trump, informed that Moscow has agreed to stop strikes on Kyiv's energy facilities for the next 30 days and decided to release 23 seriously wounded Ukrainian servicemen in a goodwill gesture.

However, Putin told Trump that for peace to prevail in Ukraine, US and its allies should stop all the military and intelligence aid to Kyiv.

Kremlin informed that Putin is ready to work with US on ‘sustainable and long-term’ solutions to end the Ukraine war as he discussed a number of ideas aimed at developing mutually beneficial cooperation in the economy and energy sector.

Russia said both Putin and Trump discussed a wide range of areas which could establish cooperation between both the countries.

Putin-Trump discuss Black Sea

Trump and Putin continued their detailed and frank exchange of opinions on the situation around Ukraine as Putin reacted constructively to Trump's idea of implementing an initiative on the safety of navigation in the Black Sea.

The two Presidents expressed mutual interest in normalising relations in light of their special responsibility for ensuring security in the world and reaffirmed his fundamental commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Putin and Trump discussed a number of ideas aimed at developing mutually beneficial cooperation in the economy and energy sector.

Trump-Putin agree on immediate ceasefire

Soon after talks with his Russian counterpart, US President Donald Trump said that they both agreed on immediate ceasefire on all energy and infrastructure establishments and would be working quickly for a complete ceasefire.

“My phone conversation today with President Putin of Russia was a very good and productive one. We agreed to an immediate Ceasefire on all Energy and Infrastructure, with an understanding that we will be working quickly to have a Complete Ceasefire and, ultimately, an END to this very horrible War between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“This war would have never started if I were President! Many elements of a Contract for Peace were discussed, including the fact that thousands of soldiers are being killed, and both President Putin and President Zelenskyy would like to see it end. That process is now in full force and effect, and we will, hopefully, for the sake of Humanity, get the job done,” the US President added.

White House statement on Trump-Putin talks

The White House earlier issued a long statement, briefing about what Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart discussed in their phone conversation that lasted for nearly two hours.

It said, “Today, President Trump and President Putin spoke about the need for peace and a ceasefire in the Ukraine war. Both leaders agreed this conflict needs to end with a lasting peace. They also stressed the need for improved bilateral relations between the United States and Russia. The blood and treasure that both Ukraine and Russia have been spending in this war would be better spent on the needs of their people."

This conflict should never have started and should have been ended long ago with sincere and good faith peace efforts. The leaders agreed that the movement to peace will begin with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, as well as technical negotiations on implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, full ceasefire and permanent peace. These negotiations will begin immediately in the Middle East, the White House added.

The leaders spoke broadly about the Middle East as a region of potential cooperation to prevent future conflicts. They further discussed the need to stop proliferation of strategic weapons and will engage with others to ensure the broadest possible application. The two leaders shared the view that Iran should never be in a position to destroy Israel, the White House said.
