A video of a peculiar creature has gone viral on the Internet after it was caught by a fisherman off the coast of Alaska. Many netizens have described the creature to be 'alien-like'. Footage posted last month by Sarah Vasser-Alford appears to show the animal, which is orange in colour, making eerie movements as it extends its long and curly tentacles. The fisherman then turns the sea creature around to reveal a creepy-looking body with murky 'blood vessels' underneath. The video has left viewers, who have compared it to a horror movie scene, dazzled and surprised, as the creature amazed viewers online who later managed to pinpoint that it was a deep-sea animal.
Sarah shared the clip last month and it has garnered over 1.2 million views. The deep-sea creature was found off of the coast of Prince of Wales Island, in Alaska. Along with over one million views, the video has also garnered more than 18,000 'shares', Over 2,000 likes or reactions and over a thousand comments. "Now this is an alien on earth," wrote one person in the comments section. "Live coral?" another wondered. "It's like a starfish with tentacles," a curious viewer wrote.
According to reports, the animal was later discerned as a basket star, which belongs to an echinoderm group known as brittle stars, with a disk-shaped body and five flexible arms. Another concerned viewer said, "Put it back in the water and let it be!" "He shouldn't be out of the water, he can't breathe!" another commented. Sarah later explained: "I was out halibut fishing with my mom and some friends and when My mom reeled up her line the basket star was on the hook. "Also it was put back in the water unharmed."
