The President of Afghanistan is asking the United Nations and its members for their support in the upcoming peace talks with the Taliban.
Ashraf Ghani said it is an urgent priority to get a ceasefire and "an urgent end to the violence."
Ghani said the decision to start talks with the Taliban took "courage."
He said a deal with the Taliban won't be enough to bring peace, but that the world must get to the "root of the terrorism problem" and address it as the "global phenomenon and threat that it is."
