STORYLINE:

Hundreds of demonstrators marched in the streets of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, once again demanding Haitian President Jovenel Moïse resign from office.

Protesters are also calling for Moïse to drop an upcoming constitutional referendum scheduled for June 27, which was unilaterally proposed by his administration.

The president's critics say it will only serve to consolidate his power.

As protesters took the streets, Moïse called for political opponents to discuss the future of the country and put an end to the infighting, which he said is delaying the development of the country.

In a scene that has become all too familiar, demonstrators burned piles of tires blocking major thoroughfares in the Haitian capital.

Reporters on-site heard gunfire and witnessed that at least one male protester was killed by a shot to the head.

It is unclear who did the shooting.

Opposition political parties who called the protest criticize the current state of affairs in the country has become untenable.

Moïse has been ruling by presidential decree since January of 2020 after dissolving a majority of Parliament.
