IMF meeting interupted by 'Baby Shark' attack, hilarity ensues

Serious talk of trade wars and a slowing world economy fell victim on Saturday to a "Baby Shark" attack. A reporter in the front row received a telephone call.

Serious talk of trade wars and a slowing world economy fell victim on Saturday to a "Baby Shark" attack. At a news conference at the conclusion of the International Monetary Fund annual meetings, a reporter in the front row received a telephone call. And the ringtone was the ubiquitous children's song and earworm.

'Baby Shark' attack in IMF meeting

Amid an outburst of laughter, IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva continued her remarks with barely a glance at the offending mobile phone. The bane of parents and teachers worldwide, the wildly infectious song "Baby Shark" soared from the children's YouTube realm to the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year, buoyed by a dance craze and hypnotically colourful video.

'Baby Shark' used to shoo homeless

As per reports, earlier in  July,  West Palm Beach, Florida blasted the popular children songs like “Baby Shark” and “Raining Tacos” all night long to discourage people from spending the night in a park. The city spokeswoman Kathleen Walter released a statement saying, "the city plays music overnight at the Waterfront Lake Pavilion to discourage congregating at the building and to encourage people to seek safer, more appropriate shelter.” Previously in 2001, West Palm Beach Police had reportedly blasted classical pieces from Mozart, Bach and Beethoven from an abandoned building in an attempt to reduce crime and loiterers.

Baby Shark Challenge

In September 2018, the internet was in a tizzy with the  'Baby Shark' dance challenge. The famous YouTube video 'Baby Shark' is making the headline once again after it was included in a viral dance challenge. Much like the 'Kiki Challenge', the 'Baby Shark Challenge' also requires one to dance to the 'Baby Shark' song, however, it doesn't necessarily require a moving car. 

Several people including kids and adults have participated in the online challenge. They are seen hopping out of vehicles and grooving to the 'Baby Shark' song. The song produced by Korean kids in association with the YouTube channel Pinkfong. In the music video, two children are seen dancing to the song. It became an internet sensation immediately after its release in 2016 and has been viewed more than 1.6 billion times.
