The Instagram post got a lot of traction and the Internet was divided over the authenticity of the photograph. The photographer, Tom Cannon, revealed that though the whale shark in the photograph is real, the picture creates an illusion of being directly below the vessel. Endangered species on IUCN red list

Cannon asked to help the whale sharks as their existence is threatened by the increasing pollution. The whale shark is listed as endangered species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) red list.
