Two months on from the coup that put the military in charge in Myanmar once again and brought huge numbers of protesters into the streets, neither side shows signs of backing down.

In Mandalay on Thursday security forces once more tried to crush the will to resist of demonstrators with deployment in force and use of live rounds.

A video shot in the city shows one unit facing one way then turning around to open fire at unseen targets in the street.

Earlier anti-coup protesters had driven through Mandalay on motorbikes while others had burned copies of the 2008 constitution to celebrate the action of a self-appointed alternative government which declared it void and put forward an interim replacement charter.
